About Me
​
Eduan Steenkamp is originally from Kakamas, a small town in the Northern Cape of South Africa. His musical journey began at an early age at the Kakamas Music Centre, where he developed a passion for the saxophone. He completed his UNISA Grade 8 in Classical Saxophone and UNISA Grade 6 in Music Theory, laying a strong foundation for his future in music.
After matriculating, he pursued audio engineering at CAE College of Audio Engineering, where he also completed a videography course. His studies continued at North-West University (NWU) in Potchefstroom, where he completed a two-year diploma in music under the leadership of Dr. Karen Devroop. During his time at NWU, he performed with NWU Jazz Band, "Buzzin,” and the NWU Wind Ensemble, while also focusing on solo performances at weddings, restaurants, and other small to medium-sized venues. Additionally, he worked as a sound engineer and videographer in Potchefstroom and surrounding areas.
Eduan earned his Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree in 2016, majoring in Music, English, and Geography. His passion for education, music, and travel has shaped his career as a teacher, performer, and lifelong
learner.
Professional Experience
Teaching Experience
Eduan has been a professional educator for over 10 years, with extensive experience in international schools. Since moving to Beijing, China, he has worked as a Music and English teacher, specializing in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to Grades 1-7 and music education for Grades 1-7. His teaching approach is student-centered, and he incorporates a variety of international curricula, including American, British, Australian, IB, and South African systems.
At Haidian International School in Beijing, where he has taught for 4 years, he serves as a subject specialist teacher, leading music classes with desk bells, boom whackers, Orff instruments, saxophones, flutes, drums, bass guitar, and piano. He has also prepared students for singing competitions, incorporating drama, costumes, and choreography to enhance their performances.
Eduan was recently accepted into a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program. His research interests lie in Leadership and Management in International Schools and Modern Music Education, with aspirations of starting his own music studio in the future.

Media & Audio Engineering
Eduan’s background in audio engineering and videography has allowed him to work on various projects in music production, live sound, and video content creation. He is now leveraging this expertise to launch a YouTube channel, reviewing affordable Chinese musical instruments for budget-conscious musicians, students, and music enthusiasts.
Future Goals & Aspirations
Eduan is actively seeking music teaching opportunities all around the world while continuing to perform, teach, and grow his influence in the education and music industries. He also plans to expand his YouTube channel, develop leadership skills in international education, and eventually start his own school or music studio.
